This project is a refresh of a branding identity I had done for a class in college, back in 2021 (scary pandemic times). At the time, I was happy with how the project turned out on a conceptual level. However, I did have a nagging feeling that it hadn’t reached its potential visually. So now, 3 years later, I took it upon myself to give this project the redemption arc it deserves.
I also successfully beat the myth that creatives will never revisit a finished project, albeit at the cost of my sanity and mental health. Many nights and brain cells have been sacrificed for this project.
My main visual references were old-fashioned matchboxes, Indian signage lettering and the aesthetically pleasing look of misprinted packaging. Inspiration from matchboxes led to restricted colour palettes of no more than 3-4 bold colours. While for matchboxes that’s implemented because it’s such a small working space, it was fun carrying this design approach over to larger working spaces.
Here’s the old project brand manual which will give this branding identity refresh some context.
